The court heard that he acted like a client, picking the things from the racks prior to packing them into a shopping bag.
He was captured on CCTv cameras while endeavoring to leave the general store without paying.
In his defence, the guy, who is a trolley pusher in Nairobi CBD, told the court that he and his family had slept hungry for three days.
“I have a four-month-old baby and I couldn’t feed my family. Your honour, you can see I only stole food items. I can’t feed my family since I lost my job,” Alvin pleaded.
The 21-year-old man, having accepted the charges, has been sentenced to one year in prison or pay KSh 100,000 fine for shoplifting.
Sad story, right? Things sure are seriously getting worse by the day thanks to the economic woes the world faces today.
